Saturday, January 25 - TFCAGP Division 2 Meet #7 @ Lehigh University - Blake Taylor, Methacton, and Octorara's Ryan Fritz, pushed each other to the top two High Jumps of the indoor PA season, both claring 6-06, with Taylor getting the win on fewer misses. Upper Merion's Steve Tyson sent the shot 53-03.50. Holy Ghost Prep posted a strong DMR of 10:50.4. Results courtesy of TFCAGP and PTFCA.

Satuurday, January 25 - Colgate Women's Games Semi-Finals
@ Pratt Institute, NYC - Tiffany Abney and Kimarra McDonald in the High School field, and Clarenchell Tate and LaVaughn Jones in the Middle School field, each won their semi-final races. Abney posted a 400 time to 56.17. McDonald went 2:15.62 in the 800. Tate selected the 55 over the 200 and won with a 7.36. And Jones captured the 1500 in 4:55.39. Other notable High School efforts included Angie Saterstad's 2nd place 4:46.46 1500, and Mycaiah Clemon's 8.60 for 4th in the 55 Hurdles. PA Performances.

Saturday, January 25- PA Performances @ New Balance Games @ The NY Armory, NYC - In a meet where elite shared the atmosphere, and sometimes the track, with high school athletes, PA performed well, as several individuals and teams took home first place medals. In the Girls' Sprint Medley Relay, the West Catholic squad of Jackson, Cortes, Leach and Thomas went 4:05.19 for the win. while Pennsbury was third with a 4:11.97. In the Relays, the Pennsbury Long Jump team of Al Gregory and Lynch combined for a 44-07.25 effort to win; while the O'Hara Shot Put tandem of Andrew Lynch and Bob McDale threw a combined 95-03 for first. In the invitational miles, Hatboro-Horsham senior Janine Ricci withstood the tough competition and finished 6th in 5:07.48, while Lynn Morelli, St. Basil was 8th in 5:12.92 and Rebecca Powell, Pennsbury, was 12th in 5:22.57. In the boys Mile, O'Hara's Steve Hallinan (left) went 4:22.95 for 9th, posting the best for the distance in PA this season. In the girls 4x400, Conestoga was 3rd in 4:04.21 (Pennsbury 4:10.88). The Cardinal O'Hara girls went 9:41.01, while Hatboro-Horsham girls went 9:42.98 in the 4x800. The Downingtown boys went 8:14.64. In the boys 4x400, O'Hara went 3:29.45, while Pennsbury went 3:35.20. Friday, January 24 - TSTCA Meet #3 @ Slippery Rock University (Penntrack onsite) Andrew Rademacher, (left) the Hickory junior who cleared a PR 15-07 earlier this month at Kent State, nearly made 15-08, but easily won his event with an effort of 15-03. Competing for the first time since have his eligibility reinstated by the PIAA (see story in Pgh. Trib-Review), Andrew Johnson, North Hills, took the 55 in 6.3. Ryan Mundy, Woodland Hills, and Lynndale Primer, Penn Hills, also received the same hand times. Butler's Jordan Gray went 44-11 in the Triple Jump. For the girls, Sha-Tira Snell of Penn Hills, went 8.3 in the 55 Hurdles, taking Julianna Rash by .1. And Chartiers Valley's Dana Ventrone lept 17-07 to win the Long Jump. Results courtesy of TSTCA.

Friday, January, 24 - TFCAGP Division 1 Meet #7 @ Lehigh University - Juan Cave, St Joseph's Prep, won again in the High Jump, clearing 6-4. In the Long Jump, Neshaminy's Brian Kennelly went 21-11. Strong relays were posted by LaSalle in the DMR by Joe Fernandez, Chris Tass, Neil O'Connell and Louis Esposito in 10:46.3; and in the 4x200 by Upper Darby's Marquis Hall, Mike Jones, Justin Pinder and Stevin Woody, who went 1:34.1.2. Friday, January 24 - DVGTCA Meet #7
@ Kutztown University - The heart of the indoor season for the girls erased a decade-old association record in the 200. William Penn's Juanita Broaddus seared to a 25.1, bettering the 25.7 mark set by Chester's Kia Davis in 1993. Teammate Christina Smith edged Sabrina Shaw of Simon Gratz in the 55 Hurdles by .1, going 8.3. St. Hubert's Rachel Papin won the 3000 in 10:36.8. In the relays, it was the William Penn foursome of Broaddus, Kandis Worthington, Knishea Sheard and Smith holding off Upper Darby by 2.2 seconds in 1:44.7. Perkiomen Valley's Brittany Long, Carol Jefferson, Bridget Walsh and Sarah Roberts posted a 9:40.6 win in the 4x800. In the Triple Jump, Wissahickon's Alex Baptiste lept 36-1-3/4 as Downingtown's Sarah Ensslen went 36-0, the 2nd and 3rd best PA jumps so far. Results courtesy of DVGTCA.

Saturday, January 18: Kutztown University Maroon & Gold @ Kutztown University - Ryan Whiting, Central Dauphin, upped his distance in the Shot Put this season to a PA #2 55-09. Lindsey Regan of Easton, cleared 11-00 in the Pole Vault, while Harrisburg's Andre Hicks cleared 6-04 in the High Jump. Archbishop Ryan's Denise Tetkowski took three events, the 200 in 27.33, the 55 Hurdles in 8.97, and the Triple Jump with a leap of 34-07.50. Results courtesy of Kutztown University.

Saturday, January 18: Franklin & Marshall HS Invitational @ Franklin & Marshall - Lancaster McCaskey senior Kenny Covington blew away the field in the 55 dash, going to a 6.2 to vault to the top of the PA Indoor charts, and place himself squarely in the top 10 of the country. Oxford's Drew Eckman captured two events, the 400 in 50.9 and the 200 in 23.1. The Huss twins did another one-two act, with Debbie getting the better of Amy by three seconds in the 1600 in 5:12. The 3200 was elite as well, with Betsy Sensenig of Ephrata holding off Lampeter-Strasburg's Emily Kruger 11:02.4 to 11:05.0. TFCAGP Division 1 Meet #6
@ Haverford College - Another Triple Jump over 44' to add to the growing group in one of the deepest events in PA this season. Downingtown's Adam Woodford went 44-05.75 to win by more than two feet. In the High Jump, St. Joe Prep's Juan Cave cleared 6-4. Abington captured both the 4x200 (1:37.9) and the 4x800 (8:25.1); while North Penn posted a strong 3:31.0 in the 4x400, and Downingtown a quality 10:50.2 in the DMR. Saturday, January 18:TFCAGP Division 2 Meet #6
@ Haverford College - They're gettin' serious in the 800, as four guys cracked 2:00, led by Chris Kessler of Sun Valley in 1:56.7. Distance ace Mark Korich of Springfield (Montco) was 2nd in 1:57.0, Radnor's Sam Dalke, 3rd in 1:59.1, and Upper Dublin's Eric Bowles, 4th in 1:59.3. Kessler's effort was a meet record. Carson Pickens, Germantown Friends, clearned 6-04 in the High Jump. Conwell Egan's Steve Slatin also set a meet record 6.9 in the 60 Dash, as did Methacton's Blake Taylor in the Triple Jump, going 43-09. Results courtesy of TFCAGP & PTFCA.

Saturday, January 18: PA Performances @ Stanner Games @ The Armory, NYC
- Nicole Leach, West Catholic, was first in the 600 Meter Run in 1:33.56, US#3. Leach and her teammates took first in the 4x400 in 3:54.05. Angela Wells, Simon Gratz, went 19-01 in the Long Jump. Simon Gratz girls took the 4x200, improving their PA #1 time to 1:42.13. Hatboro-Horsham's Mike Kenny was 7th in the Two-Mile run in 9:38.01. West Catholic captured the 4x400 in 3:54.05, a meet record. Gratz hurdler Sabrina Shah was 2nd at 55 meters in 8.62. The Simon Gratz boys were 3rd in the 4x200 in 1:33.52. PA Results.

Friday, January 17: DVGTCA Meet #6 @ Ursinus College - Rachel Giannascoli, Alicia York, Julia Sommers and Fiana York of Haverford High unleashed the best 4x800 in PA this season that also happens to be the #3 time in the US. Their 9:37.6 led Cardinal O'Hara in second with a 9:43.3 and Hatboro-Horsham in third in 9:44.3. The 800 was fast, too, with Perkiomen Valley's Sarah Roberts going 2:19.5. In the Mile, St. Hubert's Amy Kelly was first in 5:15.9, just over two seconds ahead of Downingtown's Jessie Yester. Boyertown's Natalie Miller took the High Jump clearing 5-04. Christina Smith, William Penn, was impressive in the 600 yard run in 1:25.9. Denise Tetkowski, Archbishop Ryan, won both the 55 Hurdles (8.5) and the Long Jump (16-09.75). Friday, January 17: Slippery Rock University HS Invitational @ Slippery Rock University - Emily Lepley, Lewistown, took the 55 Hurdles in 8.61. In the Long Jump, Mycaiah Clemons was pushed to a win with her 17-10 effort, by N. Smith of McDowell (17-07.75), and Erin Hannon of Bradford (17-06.50). Kim Rorabaugh, Purchase Line, won the Shot with a PA best of 39-04. In the boys' Long Jump, Jordan Gray, Bethel Park, went 22-07.25 for the victory, while Justin Clickett, Union City, took the Shot Put with a toss of 53-11. Friday, January 17: Colgate Women's Games Week # 4 @ Pratt Institute, NYC -
Tiffany Abney continued to gather first place points, taking the 400 in 57.6 and the 200 in 25.4. Kimarra McDonald ran the fastest 800 in PA this season, and US#5, getting 2nd in 2:14.7; and Angie Saterstad improved her 1500 time to 4:43.2 in getting third for a US#4 time. In the Middle School division, Clarenchell Tate captured the 55 Dash in 7.0 and the 200 in 25.3. LaVaughn Jones won the 1500 in 4:52.9. Kameesha Worthington went 60.3 in the 400 for first and 2:21.4 in the 800 for second. Results.

Friday-Saturday, January 17-18: PA Performances @ Pole Vault Summit @ Reno, Nevada - Several of PA's best travelled west and did well. For the girls, Lauren Birckhead, Liberty, and Courtney Regan, Easton, cleared 11-02 to tie at the top of the PA list. Hickory's Andrew Rademacher acquitted himself well with a 14-06 effort. Swarthmore Delco Classic @ Swarthmore College - Glen Mills' Tyree Suber continued his march toward an indoor 60-footer with a throw of 57-01. Strath Haven hurdler Phil Atkinson went 7.64 in the trials, then 7.57 in the finals of the 55 Hurdles. Sprinter Mike Bentley of Chester, held off Upper Darby's Marquis Hall by .16, going 6.36 in the 55 Dash. Strath Haven took three of four relays, getting 2nd in the DMR. Tuesday, January 14: Albright College HS Invitational
@ Albright College - Wyomissing's Robin O'Hara won two events, a somewhat unusual combo of the 55 Dash (7.55) and Pole Vault (9-01). Heather Patch raced to a strong 8.68 in the 55 Hurdles. Brian Dodds, Exeter, cleared 13-06 in the Pole Vault. And good times from Wyomissing's Andy Taylor in the 55 Trials (6.5), and teammate Imran Chowdbury in the 55 Hurdles (7.77). Tuesday, January 14: Delaware County Girls' Championships @ Haverford College - Penn Wood sprinter Chioma Nwaneshiudu dominated the short races, going 7.0 in both the trials and the finals of the 55 dash, and 26.1 in the 200. When the race was over 800 meters, Cardinal O'Hara either won it or was in it. Mary Debevec took the 800 in 2:24.8; Danielle Schopf the 3000 in 10:48.0; and the O'Hara 4x800 was 1st in 10:06.6. O'Hara's Erin Kelly was 2nd to Prendi's Nicole O'Dea (5:25.0)in the mile by 2.4 seconds; while the DMR was 2nd to Radnor (13:20.5) by 7.7 seconds. Results courtesy of DVGTCA.

Monday, January 13: Chester County Championships @ Ursinus College - West Chester East's Justin Woodruff posted a fast 800 and tied a meet record in the 800 with his 1:58.2. Conestoga's Ryan Bird ran 49.8 for a new meet record in the 400. In the Triple Jump, Galen Rivers, Great Valley, leapt 44-01.50. And in the High Jump, Octorara's Ryan Fritz went 6-05 in the High Jump. For the girls, Janessa Murphy, Great Valley, won the 55 Dash in 7.0, a new meet record. Saturday, January 11: TSTCA Meet #3 @ Slippery Rock University - Hickory's Andrew Rademacher was leaping hurdles and bars all night, and it garnered him two firsts and a second place. In his best event, the Pole Vault, he cleared 14-06. Without benefit of a pole, he got over at 6-0 in the High Jump. And in the 55 meter Hurdles, he was 2nd by .1 to teammate EJ McLaurin, who went 7.8. For the girls, North Allegheny teammates Kim Markle and Shannon Yon went 1-2 in the High Jump, both clearing 5-04. Double winners included Carlett Nance of Penn Hills, who took the 55 Dash in 7.4 and the 200 in 27.5. McDowell's Nicole Smith took the jumps with a 17-04 effort in the Long Jump, and 34-04 effort in the Triple Jump. State AAA XC Champ Christine Taranto was 2nd in the 800 by .9 to Bridget Alex of Mt. Saturday, January 11: TFCAGP Division 2 Meet #5
@ Lehigh University -
Another season, another good jumper from Girard College. Jason Hammond moved up to a tie for 3rd in the state with a leap of 44-11, matching the season best of Great Valley's Galen Rivers, who was 2nd with a leap of 43-11.50. Sean Plunkett of Chestnut Hill Academy won the Shot Put with a toss of 52-09. Blake Taylor, Methacton, cleared 6-04 to win the High Jump. Saturday, January 11: TFCAGP Division 1 Meet #5 @ Lehigh University - Norristown's Mike Whitehead lept to the top of the state indoor lists with his 46-01.50 triple jump, winning by over 2.5 feet. LaSalle won the 4x800 in 8:14.8. Quakertown's Adam Breisch matched his season-best 800, going 1:59.5. Results courtesy of TFCAGP & PTFCA.

Saturday, January 11: Lebanon Valley College High School Invitational #2 @ Lebanon Valley College - With the weather cooperating more than the week before, schools from the mountain areas of PA were able to make an appearance. State College high jumper Evak Tanner cleared 6-4 to win the High Jump. In the boys' Shot Put, Rob Kerris, a Southern Columbia sophomore, went 54-03.50 to win by over eight feet. Emily Kruger took the 3200 in 11:25.1. And three girls, Tiffany Hurd, Annville-Cleona, Libby Haas, Eastern York, and Amber Strause, State College, each clearn 5-04 in the High Jump. A speed workout of sorts in the 800 for three of PA's best distance stars, as Angie Saterstad, Hershey (2:26.5) held off Janelle Young of Cedar Cliff (2:28.8) and Red Lion's Kate Papenberg (2:32.3). Saturday, January 11: PA Performances @ Hispanic Games @ The Armory, NYC
- Racing again against the nation's elite, PA's best acquitted themselves well. Sabrina Shaw, Simon Gratz, won the 55 Hurdles in 8.59, while teammate Angela Wells captured the Long Jump with a leap of 18-05.50, and was named the Outstanding Female Athlete in Field Events. The William Penn foursome of Kandis Worthington, Christina Smith, Kneshia Sheard, and Juanita Broaddus go 3:50.91 for 1st in 4x400. Simon Gratz then took 2nd in the 4x200 by just .19 with a 1:43.53. Broaddus was 4th in the 400 with her 55.82. West Catholic sophomore Nicole Leach was 5th with a 56.01. Penn's Smith ran 56.60. West Catholic frosh Latavia Thomas was 6th in the 800, running 2:16.97. For the boys, the Simon Gratz squad went 1:33.94.

Saturday, January 11: PA Performances @ Montgomery Invitational @ Prince George County Sportsplex -
Wyomissing visits the site of the Nike Indoor Classic prior to the big meet, and as usual, comes away with some success. The girls' DMR took first 12:50.20. Debbie Huss was 3rd in the Mile in 5:19.31. Katie O'Regan was 3rd in the 3200 in 11:37.23. In the Pole Vault, Robin O'Hara cleared 8-06 to get 2nd. Central Dauphin's Ryan Whiting continued his strong early season, throwing 53-06.50 to take the Shot Put. Greenwood's Jessica Kratzer was top for the girls with a toss of 36-11.25. York's Knowledge Timmons captured both the 55 Dash (6.4) and the 200 (23.5). James Wood's (VA) Kristina Novara was also a double victor, taking the mile in 5:42.0 and the 3200 in 12:57.0. Cedar Cliff senior Pat Philbin (right) ran alone to an easy win in the boys' 3200 in 9:51.0. Hershey won three of the four relays, with the boys taking both the 4x800 (9:00) and the 4x400 (3:54), and the girls winning the 4x800 in 10:56, while getting 2nd by three seconds in the 4x400 in 4:34 to McLean, VA. Friday, January 10: DVGTCA Meet #5 @ Lehigh University -
New US#'s 3-4 with St. Hubert's (Kate Mahaffey, Megan Neary, Rachel Papin, Amy Kelly) posted the best PA DMR of the season, holding off Cardinal O'Hara (Erin Kelly, Talea McKnight, Mary Debevec, Danielle Schopf) by just 1.5 seconds in 12:35.0. Friday, January 10: Colgate Women's Games Week #3 @ Pratt Institute, NYC - Tiffany Abney picked up the pace in week #3, winning both the 200 in 25.2 and the 400 in 57.3. Middle School counterpart Clarenchell Tate of Philadelphia, continued her winning ways, going 7.1 in the 55 and 25.9 in the 200. Penn Trafford's Mycaian Clemons took 2nd in the 55 Hurdles in 8.3. Abney's Merion Mercy teammate, Kimarra McDonald, was 2nd in the 800 in 2:19.8, and 6th in the 400 in 59.9. Angie Saterstad, Hershey, continued to improve in the 1500 with her 4th place 4:45.5. In the Middle School 800, Kameesha Worthington was 2nd in 2:19.4.

Saturday, January 4, 2003 - Lebanon Valley High School Invitational #1 @ Lebanon Valley College (PennTrack on site) - Angie Saterstad ran alone, but paced her way to an easy win the the 3200, going 11:13.3. Cedar Cliff soph Janelle Young captured both the mile (5:34.0) and the 800 (2:30.1). Montgomery (MD) sprinter Sharifa Love took the 200 in 27.4 and the 400 in 62.1. In the field events, Harrisburg's Rachelle Edrington won the Long Jump, going 16-07.25, and the Triple Jump, leaping 35-01.25. In the boys' competition, Shot Putter Ryan Whiting of Central Dauphin won by over nine feet, throwing 54-09. @ New York Armory - Janine Ricci, Hatboro-Horsham, continued her early strong success, running a US#1 time in the 3000 on the fast Armory track, getting first in 10:20.24. Kourtney Marquis, Pennsbury, improved from earlier efforts and cleared 10-09 in the Pole Vault to take 1st. In the 55 Hurdles, Tiffany Nesfield, of CH Flowers (MD) went 8.46 to hold off Kamilah Salaam of Glasgow (DE), who was 2nd in 8.51. Salaam did get two 1st place medals, capturing the 55 Dash in 7.35 and the 200 in 26.21. Toni Aluko of Paint Branch (MD) took the girls' High Jump, clearing 5-06. Ephrata's Betsy Sensenig (10:42.7) beat Red Lion's Kate Papenberg (11:06.9) in the 3000. In boys' competition, Wyomissing's Travis Quillman clearned 6-04 to take the High Jump. Double winners included Mike Downs, Delcastle (DE) in the 55 (6.73) and the 200 (23.51); Josh Fritz, Northwest (PA) in the 800 (2:02.61) and the 1600 (4:35.25); plus the CH Flowers (MD) relays in both the 4x400 (3:32.58) and the 4x800 (8:45.67). Saturday, January 4, 2003 - TFCAGP Division 1 Meet #4 @ Haverford College - Tyree Suber, Glen Mills, returned to the circle and unleashed a throw of 54-03 in the Shot Put. St. Joseph's Prep has a high jumper this year in Juan Cave, who cleared 6-04 to win by four inches. Kevin Akins, North Penn, edged Tracy Robinson, West Chester Henderson, in the 200, both clocked in 23.0. And William Tennent's 4x200 went 1:36.9 to hold off Neshaminy. Saturday, January 4, 2003 - TFCAGP Division 2 Meet #4 @ Haverford College - Harriton's Dan Engle tied a meet record in the 60 dash, going 7.1, edging Upper Moreland's Kwesi Nurse, who was also timed in 7.1. Oxford 400 ace Drew Eckman broke his own meet record being pushed to a 50.4 by Cardinal Dougherty's Brendan Reilley. Mark Korich, Springfield (Montco) ran a strong 9:03.6 3000. In the Long Jump, Conwell Egan's Steve Slayton went 21-04. The Strath Haven 4x200 went 1:34.6 to win by almost five seconds. And in the 800, it was Great Valley's Ben Franczuscki won in 2:00.2. Friday, January 3, 2003 - TSTCA Meet #2 @ University of Pittsburgh - Hickory's Andrew Rademacher is clearly the early leader in the Pole Vault, this time clearing 14-06. The Thomas Jefferson boys took the two sprint relays, capturing the 4x200y in 1:37.3 (West Mifflin 1:37.3), and the 4x440y in 3:44.2. Friday, January 3, 2003 - DVGTCA Meet #4 @ Kutztown University - Juanita Broaddus, William Penn, went with the 55 Hurdles and 300 yards, taking both wins, 8.83 and 36.8, respectively. Dobbins ran with and then away from William Penn in the 4x200 going 1:50.9 to win by over a second. Perkiomen Valley pulled off a win over a strong St. Hubert's 4x800 squad, going 9:50.7 for 4.3 second gap. Nicole Leach, West Catholic, was unchallenged in the 200 with here 25.9. West Catholic frosh Latavia Thomas ran into last year's frosh sensation, Krista Simkins, Wissahickon, in the 400, with Simkins pulling off a one second win in 58.6. Distance aces Maressa Pinzini of Cheltenham, and Jessie Yester, Downingtown, showed solid middle diistance wheels, with Pinzini taking first in 2:21.4, with Yester 2nd in 2:23.2. The 3000 had a few new competitors this week, but remained one of the strongest events. Cardinal O'Hara senior Danielle Schopf had the best day, going 10:42.3. St. Hubert's junior Amy Kelly was 2nd in 10:46.2, while Bensalem junior Ashley Kelly was 3rd in 10:47.3. Results courtesy of DVGTCA.

Friday, January 3, 2003 - Colgate Women's Games Week #2 @ Pratt Institute, NYC - Week 2 and Clarenchell Tate of Imani Charter School in Philadelphia is still rockin', going 6.9 and 25.4 (AGAIN!) in the Middle School 55 and 200. Tiffany Abney, Merion Mercy, made it to the track on time this week and won the 400 in 57.8 and the High School 55 in 6.9. Hershey's Angie Saterstad had a better race in the HS 1500, getting 3rd in 4:51.7. Kemeesha Worthington, Tilden Middle School, took the MS 400 in 60.4 and was 2nd in the MS 800 in 2:19.5. Germantown Academy's Alyssa Depte was 2nd in the MS HS, clearing 5-0. Results on Dyestat.

HEARD AROUND THE TRACK

December 13 - Tim Cook, longtime coach of girls cross country and track & field at Chambersburg Area Senior
High School, and his wife Susan, were killed Friday night 12/13 in a traffic accident on Interstate 81 near their home in Chambersburg. A private funeral was Friday, 12/20, with a memorial service last Saturday. The story from the Chambersburg Public Opinion.

- Track & Field News unveiled their 2002 High School All-American team in their November issue, and it includes quite a few Pennsylvania athletes. Coughlin's Justn Ryncavage in Javelin and Merion Mercy's Tiffany Abney are only US#1's.
