AA Girls race photos, plus an interview with state champion
Jesi Christiansen.
It's
a three-peat for Wyomissing. And the top four are back for another
year.
Christiansen lets her competition
determine her strategy. She's not in the picture at the start.
Just lurking.
Jesi
took over midway through the first mile, and by 1.2 had opened
this lead.
Lewisburg's Ashleigh Wetzel led
the pack at 1.2. She would finish 7th.
At
1.5, Christiansen held on during the course's toughest part.
Nastase, Learn and Muchal closed
on Christiansen, but the late charge would fall just short.
Jesi
Christiansen, Greenville, AA Girls Champion
"I wasn't in the lead until after the mile, but I wasn't
worried about that. I've been going out too fast this year. I
went out on a really good pace this race. I always get my strategy
from other runners, and then run my own race. I was tired, and
there are always feelings of 'maybe I can't do this'. Everybody
told me they were praying for me, and that really helped."
Accepting
congratulations is probably the easy part.
Mansfield
senior Charity finished her high school career with a third place
medal. Her younger sister, frosh Tricia, was 11th.
