August 17, 2001 - Tiffany Abney (Hurdles) and Sheena Gordon (Jumps) named  today to the first Dyestat All-American Girls' Team. Honorable Mentions to Juanita Broaddus (Sprints), Emily Tharpe (Jumps), and William Penn (Relays). Read all about it and see the entire team on Dyestat

August 17, 2001 - Thanks to newly named Cardinal O'Hara Assistant Mike McMillen, and former Haverford All-State High Jumper and runner Mike Lang for helping PennTrack XC catch up  on posting archive results. You can see the beginnings of the fruits of our labor at this link.

August 11, 2001-Beginning today, and every two weeks through the upcoming XC, indoor and outdoor seasons, we will provide an article on training authored by professionals in athletic training, conditioning and rehabilitation. August 4, 2001-Juanita Broaddus, Cambria TC (William Penn) wins the 100 in 11.88 and 200 in 23.85 in Intermediate Girls, while Dominique Darden of United Stars (Harrisburg HS) takes the Young Women title in the 200 with a 23.97. United Stars Youth Girls 4x100 take championship . PA AAU Day Eight Results.

August 3, 2001-The IM Girls Cambria TC has a great qualifier in the 4x100. Morris Estate's Midget Boys take the 4x800 championship, while their Young Men 4x800 places well. PA AAU Day Seven Results.

August 2, 2001-Dominique Darden wins YW 100 Hurdles and advances in the 200. Juanita Broaddus has fastest 100 and 200 qualifers. PA AAU Day Six Results.

August 1, 2001-Tyeshia Thomas takes the YW 400H, while Latavia Thomas takes the Youth Girls 800, representing Cambria TC at the AAU Junior Olympics. PA AAU Day Five Results.
 

July 31, 2001-Juanita Broaddus, Cambria TC, posts the fastest Prelim 200 of the day in Intermediate Girls, while Dominique Darden, United Stars, has fastest times in YW 100H and 200 Prelims. PA AAU Day Four Results.
 

July 30, 2001-Juanita Broaddus and her Cambria TC teammates have a good day, along with PA athletes in all age groups from Harrisburg Highsteppers, River City Elite, and Mallery. PA AAU Day Three Results.
 

July 29, 2001-United Stars and Mallery Track Club represented PA well Sunday at the USATF Junior Olympics, even getting one national record on the final day. Plus AAU Day Two Results on Dyestat.
 

July 28, 2001-Poussett finishes 4th in US in 200. United Stars relays take 4x800 and have fastest 4x100 Prelim time on Saturday at the USATF Junior Olympics. Plus AAU Day One Results on Dyestat from VA.
 

July 27, 2001-Leach advances, Rodgers just misses in 400 prelims on Friday at USATF Junior Olympics.
 

July 26, 2001-Poussot and United Stars off to a great start in 200 and 4x400 YW Prelims at the USATF Junior  Olympics.

July 15, 2001

Juliette Poussot, United Stars, ran the third fastest PA 200 time of the year, winning today's finals in the Young Women's Division of the Region 2 USATF Junior Olympics at Rowan University, Glassboro, NJ in a smokin' 23.88. Only Juanita Broaddus and Lauryn Williams have run faster. Juliette is pictured below in the 4x100 Semis. Juliette also finished second in the LJ with a leap of 18-7, just .75" behind Cassandra Richards (4th best jumper in PA this season). She also competed on the winning 4x100 and 4x400 squads. Courtney  Clark qualified for the Finals in the 400H at the World  Youth Championships in Hungary on Friday. Her 1:01.50 was good for third in her heat, and the last spot to advance to Saturday's finals,  which will be held at noon  Saturday, our time. In that  race, Clark  finished 8th with a 1:03.70.

July 13, 2001 (Better late than never)

Several PA athletes excelled at the AAU Region 2 Championships held in Hampton, VA, July 5-8. Dominique Darden, United Stars, took first in the Young Women's 200 with a 24.34, after running a 24.78 in the Prelims. Darden also won the 100 H with a time of 14.94. Juanita Broaddus, running for Cambria Track Club, took first in the Young Women's 100 with an 11.74. She had taken an earlier prelim with a 12.27. Other United Stars athletes also performed well. In the Youth Girls 100, Jessica Williams won with a 12.74. Aisha harris was 8th with a 13.28. Both had identical finishes in the prelims with times of 13.00 and 13.31 respectively. In the Youth Girls 4x100, the United Stars took the championship with a time of 49.06. Full Region 2 results are on Dyestat.
 
 

July 12, 2001

Evelyn Dwyer misses her chance to advance to the semi-finals by finishing third (to two auto) in her heat of the Women's 800 in Hungary at the World Youth Championships with a 2:11.72. The event was eventually won in just over 2:05. Results of the 800.
 
 

July 11, 2001

Evelyn Dwyer, the current PA PIAA State Champion and defending USATF Junior Olympics Young Women Champion in the 800, and Courtney Clark, of Norristown, are in Hungary as members of the US Team at the IAAF World Youth Championships scheduled July 12-15 in Debrecen. Dwyer qualified for the team with her 2000 Junior Olympics Championship. Clark will compete in the 400H.

- Dywer will first compete at 10:25 AM (4:25 AM DST) Thursday. The Semis and Finals in the 800 are scheduled for 4:15 PM (10:15 AM DST) Friday, and 4:45 PM (10:45 AM DST) Sunday, respectively.

Clark will first compete at 5:45 PM (11:45 AM DST) Friday. The Finals in the 400 Hurdles are scheduled for 6:00 PM (Noon DST) Saturday.

NOTE ON MID-ATLANTIC USATF COMPETITION ADJUSTMENT:
Results only include sub-bantam, bantam and midget, 
which were contested on 6/16. The next day's events
were rained out. Only those events for other age groups
which required seeding, were scheduled for competition
on Thursday, July 12. Qualifiers advance to the Region 2
meet, scheduled for Thur - Sun July 12-15 at Rowan 
University, Glassboro, NJ




























July 8, 2001 - Per Walt Murphy, West Chester University is hosting twilight track meets on July 10 and July 24.  Each meet will have a featured race with prize money of $100, $50, $25.  On the 10th, the featured race is the mile.  On the 24th, it's the 5000m. July 7, 2001 - Ted Abel, who founded the William Tennent girls T&F program at the school in 1974, is retiring from coaching. Story at Heard Around the Track.

July 6-7, 2001

Evelyn Dwyer, United Stars (Merion Mercy), takes 1st place in the 800 at the USATF Youth Athletics National Championships in Decatur, IL today in 2:11.67. Also in Young Women (17-18) Group, Juliette Poussot, United Stars, gets 7th in 200 final with 24.96, the same time as Norristown's Courtney Clark, who was 6th running for the Mallery Challengers. Clark also competed in the two hurdles events, getting 2nd in the 400H with a 1:01.97, and 7th in the 100H, getting 14.82 in the prelims, and 15.57 in the finals. In earlier results, Kim Abel, United Stars, took 2nd in Youth Girls (13-14) Pentathlon with 2,661 points (16.04 100LH,29-05.50 SP, 4-09 HJ, 13-11.50 LJ, 2:41.51 800); in Midget Girls (11-12) United Stars' Alexandra Brasington, ran a 10:59.57 3000 for 2nd place and a 5:14.77 in the 1500, for 5th; and in Bantam Girls (10 and under), United Stars Candace Williams, took 3rd in the 800 with a 2:36.21 and 6th in the 1500 with a 5:40.14. July 5, 2001

Evelyn Dwyer, the current PA PIAA State Champion and defending USATF Junior Olympics Young Women Champion in the 800, will leave early next week as a member of the US Team going to the IAAF World Youth Championships to be held July 12-15 in Debrecen, Hungary. Dwyer qualified for the team with her 2000 Junior Olympics Championship. Norristown's Courtney Clark will also be on the team, competing in the 400H.(LINK TO IAAF SITE)
 
 

July 5, 2001

United Stars' Evelyn Dywer (2:15.53) easily advances to Friday's Young Women 800 final at the Youth Nationals in Decatur, Illinois. PA's (and United Stars') Juliette Poissot of Agnes Irwin, misses the 100 final by .02, running 12.07, but makes the 200 finals with a 5th place in the prelims with a 24.85.
