all-time US 300 meters (38.44), and got 2nd. The winner was a new
US record from Shana Cox (Holy Trinity,NY), in 37.59 (Prev.
37.77, Natasha Hastings, Randolph,NY, 2002). Smith pushed
Hastings until the last lap in the 600 meters, but faded to 6th in
1:36.67. Smith also ran the 55 H, getting 4th in 8.66. But
William Penn's 4x200 (Christina Smith 26.0, Knishea
Sheard 26.9, Shantia Byrd 27.4, Juanita Broaddus
24.4) took the top spot in 1:44.72, with anchor Broaddus coming
from 3rd after a teammate stumbled into the railing on the second
exchange and lost the lead. The Girls' High 4x400 relay of Rachel
Johnson, Venessa Powell, Ashley Morris and Garnder
was 5th in 4:08.25. Johnson also ran the 1000 meters, getting
7th in 3:10.58.
