The boys Meet of Champs was simply the best PA meet of the season,
as 31 performances qualify for national rankings, highlighted by six
ones in the Triple Jump and a three-PR day for the top hurdler in
PA. Norristown's Mike Whitehead (right)
continued his great season with a US#5 48-04.50. Also going
over 46 feet were Galen Rivers, Great Valley (48-02.75), Blake Taylor,
Methacton (47-02), and Adam Woodford, Downingtown (46-03).
North Penn's Dan Jarques went 44-08.75, while Central's Marcus
Dexter was 6th with his 44-08.25 effort. Dior Lowry,
Martin Luther King, set a PR every time he ran his specialty, the
60 meter hurdles, going 8.22, 8.13 and 8.11 respectively. Lowry was
pleased with his day. "My final was clean. But I was behind at
the first hurdle, so when I get my start working, I can go faster."
Adam Woodford, Downingtown, was 2nd in the 60 Hurdles in 8.40. The
High Jump boasted some strong leaps, with Carlson Pickins of
Germantown Friends School cleared 6-08, as did Taylor (yes,
the same one who went 47-02 in the Triple Jump). St. Joseph's Prep's
Juan Cave was third with his 6-07 effort, while Bill Morris,
Devon Prep, cleared 6-04. Oxford's Drew Eckman broke 50 again,
going 49.25. In the Relays, North Penn held off a hard-charging
Strath Haven by just .8 in the 4x200 with a 1:32.19. They also
took the 4x800 in 8:10.78, ahead of Bonner (8:14.15), and LaSalle
(8:14.45). Central ran the top DMR in PA behind Mike Syrnick
3:08.0, Rayon Fulton 51.9, Mike Taras 2:04.7, and Jon
Cartwright 4:32.4 for their 10:36.82. LaSalle was 2nd
in 10:44.76. Quakertown senior Adam Breisch ran the 2nd fastest
PA mile of the year (4:20.70), pulling away from Mark Korich,
Springfield (Montco), 2nd in 4:22.30. But Korish came back
in the 3000 to set a meet record of 8:57.32. Pennsbury's Al Gregory
had a two-win day with his 22-10.50 Long Jump and 6.99 (twice) and
7.03 once in the 60 Dash. Steve Slayton, Conwell-Egan, was
2nd in the 60 finals in 7.00. Slayton also leapt 22-01.50 in
the LJ to get 2nd to Gregory.
