Approaching two miles on the Lehigh course..
Council Rock's Jessica Cickay has emerged
as one of the nation's elite, taking the District championship
in 17:50. (In better conditions in 1999, Renee Gunning went 17:42).
Coatesville's Kelly O'Connell ran alone much
of the race, finishing in a strong 18:14 under adverse conditions
to capture second.
Wissahickon's Erin Franklin finished fourth,
12 seconds after first-year XC runner Kim Malcolm of Villa Maria,
both under 19:00. This shot was at 1.5 miles.
Council Rock is nationally ranked, but stumbled
a bit to lose to a very talented and deep North Penn team. They'll
meet again at States to face Cumberland Valley, North Allegheny,
and other tough teams.
Coatesville's Rob Robertson broke the pack
open early.
One of the favorites at States has to be Rob
Robertson, Coatesville, who powered through the wind to run a
fast time even under good conditions - a 15:37.
Pottsgrove's Corey Rogers was second in 15:49.
St. Basil's Lynn Morelli took the AA title
in 18:45.
New Hope-Solebury's Joanna Marlow was second,
45 seconds back.
Morelli and Marlow led the AA race from a
half mile on.
And Gwynedd Mercy's Meghan Bishop was 3rd
in 19:48.
The start of the boys AA race.
The AA boys at 3/4 mile. (notice that eventual
second place finisher Tom Bentley, Devon Prep, isn't in the pack,
but he's the only one who found his way into this group.)
The AA boys pack approaching two miles.
And it was close until the end as Matt Bintner,
St. Pius, held off Devon Prep's Tom Bentley.
Apparently this fan's sign worked, as Devon
Pre won the AA District championship by three points.
Lower Moreland's Jared Moskowitz got the cheers
from the crowd as he finished the AA race.
