Saturday,

League Championships @
Rose Tree Park, Media

senior Eddie Dutch has been concentrating more on running
this year than ice hockey, and the work paid off with an invitational
win in his league championship. He toured the rolling Rose Tree
circuit in 16:20, to win by 27 seconds. But Strath Haven
placed three in the top nine to take team honors, behind the 2nd
place finish of Matt Jasnose. Results.
Saturday,
October 19: Erie

Fairview HS - Harbor
Creek went 1-2-4-10-12 to tally just 29 points and capture
the Erie County Championships on a cold, wet, windy day, 16 better

Saturday,
October 19: French
Creek Conference Championships @

- What
a day up here in northwestern PA. Cold and pouring rain - terrible
running conditions!! There are no team scores because the county
champion is determined during the dual meet season. (Both the
Union City Boys and girls won the county titles, the boys
for the 21st consecutive year). We had a surprise in the Varsity
boys race with Richard Gawlinski of Union going
17:27 to beat pre-race favorite, and teammate, Reuben Smith.
Linesville's Molly Walker took the girls' race in 22:29.

won easily in 15:46. West Middlesex, with just 40 points

Saturday,
October 19:
PIAA District 8 (Pgh City League) Championships @
Schenley Oval
- The
Allderdice girls and boys teams became the first teams
to qualify for the PIAA Championships by winning the District
8 (Pittsburgh City League) Championships. Three days of rain had
turned much of the course to mud, forcing runners to slog through
large puddles and causing some harriers to fall on the sharper
turns. Times were significantly slower than at the last league
meet held October 10, and the rain and wind literally tore bibs
right off the runners, so scoring the race was difficult. In the
boys' race, Tom Jech (Allderdice) won in 17:24, and teammate
Ron Warnock second in 18:05. Khafre Wade (Langley),
Rich Hanlon (Carrick), and Micah Chaney (Schenley)
all finished in the top six, and qualified for States as individuals.
Allderdice finished its seven runners in the top ten places
for 22 points. Allderdice's Molly Ainsman, who was
also the City League winner last year, defended her title in 20:29.
Mara Horwitz (Schenley) qualified for States, finishing
second in 20:49. Allderdice then swept the next six places
to tally just 19 points. Anne Stadler (Langley) and Madeline
Seltman (Schenley) rounded out the top ten. Josh Delouis
(Langley) and Lili Knezevich (Allderdice) won the junior
varsity boys' and girls' races, respectively. Results

One League-National Conference @
William Tennent -
Split
'em up! Even though the Council Rock North boys are missing
an entire school of athletes, they are still rolling in XC. The
boys took the team title with just 35 points, placing five in
the top 12, and six in the top 16. The 1-5 spread was a nice 31
seconds, behind John Palumbo's 2nd place 16:29. Joe
Dare, Souderton, won individual honors with a 16:19.
The North Penn girls, behind Cheryl
Dingman's 3rd place 19:31, were 21 better than Council
Rock North. Val Myers,

week at William Tennent to post a fast 14:55 on the 2.95 mile
Ursinus College course, capturing the Sub-One American Championship.
Upper Dublin's Matt Lawson was eight seconds back. And
Janine Ricci, leading Hatboro-Horsham all season, continued
her prep for the major portion of the post-season by 17:28 to
outdistance Cheltenham's Marissa Pinzini by 24 seconds.

made a big move at the two mile mark to beat soph Sam Luff
of Emmaus to become the first champion at the inaugural
Lehigh Valley Interscholastic Athletic Conference Meet
in 16:28. Parkland packs 4 in the top 9 to win the team

by Twin Valley's Shawn Moore. Results

Thursday,
October 17: Lancaster-Lebanon
League Championships @
Ephrata Middle School
- Two
families (four twins) take half the top eight spots in Ephrata
at the Lebanon-Lancaster Championships. Pat Clark,
Cedar Crest, is returning to form after some early season illness.
That's the good news for Cedar Crest. The bad news was there's
a new set of twins on the scene (Pat's twin Ben is also on the
team) - the Millers of Manheim Township. And it was frosh
star Craig who held off the veteran by five seconds with
his winning 16:36.3. In the battle between Brad (Miller)
and Ben (Clark), it was the younger who prevailed, getting
6th in 17:09.8 over Ben's 17:18.2 8th place finish. Manheim
Township prevailed by just two over Cedar Crest, but
it was Solanco, behind the 5th place 17:07.7 of Derek Jennings,
that took the boys title by eight points. In the girls' race,

this fall, but ran into Lancaster Mennonite sophomore Kristen
Groff and her 19:36.9. Kruger was 16 seconds back. Ephrata's

to the league title, over 2nd place Lampeter-Strasburg.
