Wellsboro's Dailyn Cooney was 3rd in 19:15.6 to lead her team to a win with just 43 points. Wyalusing Valley's Jenny Stevens was the champ in 19:01.6. Results courtesy of Jim Schools.

Saturday, October 19: Central League Championships @ Rose Tree Park, Media - Haverford senior Eddie Dutch has been concentrating more on running this year than ice hockey, and the work paid off with an invitational win in his league championship. He toured the rolling Rose Tree circuit in 16:20, to win by 27 seconds. But Strath Haven placed three in the top nine to take team honors, behind the 2nd place finish of Matt Jasnose. Results.

Saturday, October 19: Erie County Championships @ Fairview HS - Harbor Creek went 1-2-4-10-12 to tally just 29 points and capture the Erie County Championships on a cold, wet, windy day, 16 better than General McLane. The best combined score went General McLane with 125 (girls 80, boys 45). Results courtesy of Dennis Muller.

Saturday, October 19: French Creek Conference Championships @ Cambridge Springs HS - What a day up here in northwestern PA. Cold and pouring rain - terrible running conditions!! There are no team scores because the county champion is determined during the dual meet season. (Both the Union City Boys and girls won the county titles, the boys for the 21st consecutive year). We had a surprise in the Varsity boys race with Richard Gawlinski of Union going 17:27 to beat pre-race favorite, and teammate, Reuben Smith. Linesville's Molly Walker took the girls' race in 22:29. Results courtesy of Dan Keefer.

Saturday, October 19: Mercer County Athletic Conference Championships @ Grove City HS - Rain, wind, and the Greenville Christiansen's were slip-slidin' to conference championships at Grove City HS. However, his team was second to Shikellamy, with 42 points (3-7-8-10-14), led by Steve Thompson's 3rd place 16:51. Results and summary courtesy of Lanny Conner.

Saturday, October 19: PIAA District 8 (Pgh City League) Championships @ Schenley Oval - The Allderdice girls and boys teams became the first teams to qualify for the PIAA Championships by winning the District 8 (Pittsburgh City League) Championships. Three days of rain had turned much of the course to mud, forcing runners to slog through large puddles and causing some harriers to fall on the sharper turns. Times were significantly slower than at the last league meet held October 10, and the rain and wind literally tore bibs right off the runners, so scoring the race was difficult. In the boys' race, Tom Jech (Allderdice) won in 17:24, and teammate Ron Warnock second in 18:05. Khafre Wade (Langley), Rich Hanlon (Carrick), and Micah Chaney (Schenley) all finished in the top six, and qualified for States as individuals. Allderdice finished its seven runners in the top ten places for 22 points. Allderdice's Molly Ainsman, who was also the City League winner last year, defended her title in 20:29. Mara Horwitz (Schenley) qualified for States, finishing second in 20:49. Allderdice then swept the next six places to tally just 19 points. Anne Stadler (Langley) and Madeline Seltman (Schenley) rounded out the top ten. Josh Delouis (Langley) and Lili Knezevich (Allderdice) won the junior varsity boys' and girls' races, respectively. Results courtesy of Matthew Meisel, Allderdice HS.

Parkland packs 4 in the top 9 to win the team title. Frances Koons of Allentown Central Catholic surges at the mile mark and comfortably cruises to victory in 18:59. Results courtesy of Brian Mondschein, Kutztown University

Thursday, October 17: Lancaster-Lebanon League Championships @ Ephrata Middle School - Two families (four twins) take half the top eight spots in Ephrata at the Lebanon-Lancaster Championships. Pat Clark, Cedar Crest, is returning to form after some early season illness. That's the good news for Cedar Crest. The bad news was there's a new set of twins on the scene (Pat's twin Ben is also on the team) - the Millers of Manheim Township. And it was frosh star Craig who held off the veteran by five seconds with his winning 16:36.3. In the battle between Brad (Miller) and Ben (Clark), it was the younger who prevailed, getting 6th in 17:09.8 over Ben's 17:18.2 8th place finish. Manheim Township prevailed by just two over Cedar Crest, but it was Solanco, behind the 5th place 17:07.7 of Derek Jennings, that took the boys title by eight points. ***STATE COURSE & TIMING NEWS***
And then there was one. The PIAA has released a map of the REVISED & OFFICIAL course for States. It's not the one the coaches helped to design earlier this season, but it looks like an improvement. Download our PDF that has both the original, somewhat controversial course, and the one proposed by the PA coaches. Other big news is on the timing. The PIAA will use the ChampionChip technology (computer chips attached to athletes' shoes) for the first time in a state meet. The official 2002 PIAA rules are in this large PDF, or read about the technology itself at the timing company's site.
