Middle
School track & field in the state of Florida is scattered and has
no uniformity. Most athletes only see in county rivals and never
have an end goal of something higher than their county championship (if
there county even has one). It is a major goal of flrunners.com
to build up middle school athletics in the state. We know that if
we can help to build a love of the sport early, it will reap huge
rewards in the years to come.
In order to increase motivation, fun, and the level of competition we
have organized this state championship meet. While this will be
our fourth year doing the meet, it is the first time we have done so
with regional qualifying meets. In the past, the "state
championship" has been an all-comers. By making qualifying
standards to compete in the state championship, we have three major
goals: 1) make it a more legitimate state championship 2)
increase awareness on the local level the state championship series
exists and 3) give more kids the chance to compete.
We hope you will take part in this exciting event!

RULES AND DETAILS
Sanction: The state and
regional meets will be sanctioned by the USATF. Teams or athletes
competing do NOT need to be member of the USATF; however, we will be
using the USATF rulebook as our guide, so coaches should be at least
vaguely familiar with them.
Team Uniforms: Team
uniforms WILL be allowed. Any school team competing whose school
is a member of the FHSAA should be aware that they should NOT wear
their school official uniforms. Alternate team attire should be
worn; however, we will not be enforcing this. It is up to the
coach to do so. FHSAA schools will violate FHSAA rules if they do
not adhere to this.
Entries: There are no limits on the
number of participants a club or team may enter in any one event. The
standard FHSAA guidelines will apply for an individual’s limits
on events. This means that each athlete will be allowed to compete
in up to five events, with no more than three of them being running
events. An athlete could be entered in five field events if they do
not compete in any running events. There will not be minimum marks
for Field events, as we want to encourage participation as much as
possible in this meet.
Hurdles Heights: We will
be following USATF Youth rules for the hurdle heights. The 100
Meter Hurdles will be set at 30 inches for girls and 33 inches for
boys. The 200 Meter Hurldes will be set at 30 inches for both
boys and girls.
Shot/Disc Weights:
USATF Youth rules apply for implement weights. Discus is 1kg for
both boys and girls. Shot is 4kg for boys and 6lbs. for girls.
